The booth was occupied by the Poetic Earth Journal company (this link will also be found in the Artist’s Corner) .  They even had a large sign that read “Poetic Earth Handmade Journals” which is what caught my attention.  So, in I went, and, much to my surprise, I saw several journals hanging out on the shelves that were made by Courtney Davis.  I love his work, and have looked on Amazon on several different occasions for journals with his work on them.  In fact, over the summer, I even purchased one from Amazon.  It was a toss up between this Mother Earth Journal and this Moonlight Fairy Journal.  The fairy journal won out (which turned out to be a good thing since I haven’t seen it offered since, while the Mother Earth Journal was sitting on the shelves in this booth yesterday).  I haven’t used the fairy journal yet, even though the paper is very nice, because the person selling it on Amazon didn’t take care of it, so I have been reconditioning the leather so that it won’t crack when I open it.  That said, I have been dying to use it ever since I got it.

Poetic Earth also had smaller journals set with cats eye and other precious stones, with a variety of little catches to keep them closed.  All of them were made of leather and all of them had the same cotton paper inside.  They were very lovely, and, I have to admit, being the connoisseur of papers that I am, I went into a mild form of ferret shock, but the thing that I saw that I loved the most were these rolled up journals.  (That I later learned were being marketed as Poetic Earth’s Antique Deckled Edge Parchment Scrolls.  The price on the link is NOT what I paid, I paid much less.  It pays to go in person on the last day of the faire…).

They had them in black and brown.  I almost picked up a black one, but the man selling them showed me a nice brown one that he had just finished making, so I took that one instead.  It is, if I had to guess, with no ruler, roughly 10-12 by 16-18 when flat, and rolls up into a convenient carry bundle.

I can’t wait to use it, it makes me happy.  I may order some of the small ones later, as well, but I think that I will definitely wait until I can buy the larger ones in person again.

Out of these four, the only one that is still available is the last one with the tiger stripes. I am trying to make them to put up on my ETSY store in December when I am off of work, but they don’t seem to be lasting that long…

I am also in the process of making dolls, but the prototype leaves much to be desired, as far as I am concerned. It is almost there, but not quite. That should all be sorted out over the next few days though (hopefully).

The inside front of my bag, with spaces for pencils, plus a largish pouch at the bottom (where the owl is) and a pocket behind the space for pencils, as well as a pocket with a flap that just happens to be the exact size of my wallet (Where the initials and the butterflies are).  It was like this bag was MADE for me, I swear.

A close up of my pocket.  The butterflies came in a package of twelve, four of which were pink, two light and two dark (the rest were various shades of blue and green).  I was going to use all of the pinks for something for my niece since she LOVES pink and I tend to think of pink as a faded red (and red is a glorified pink, so there you go.  Not my favorites), but, looking at my bag, EVERYTHING was green, or blue, or black and white (with the exception of a guitar, which is a play on words, to be explained later), and so I decided I needed a warm color to off set all the cools.  So I chose one of the darker pink ones.  I think it came out nicely, AND I still have three more to use for my niece.

This is the guitar on the pocket on one side of my bag that I use to hold my cell phone.  I got this one because I LOVE music, but I can’t play guitar (I was trying to learn and then got my hand mauled by my cat [which is a LOOONG story that you can read about here, here, here,  here, and here, if you are so inclined] and since total dexterity and strength has yet to return despite being MUCH better, guitar lessons are on hold), and not only can I not play guitar, I have a very good friend who CAN play guitar who covered a song called, you guessed it, Can’t Play Guitar (to hear his work go here).  So, basically, it is a big ol’ inside joke.  But know you all know about it, so it really isn’t inside anymore.  Cheers.

This is the peacock on the back of my bag, which unzips to reveal a whole secret compartment for paint brushes, paints, and dry pallets.  The peacock is because I had an ex who decided that he was going to be rich, and that when we were married in our large house with our kids, we were going to have, no joke, peacocks in the front yard.  Because, you know, EVERYONE wants to wake up to “INNNG-YAAA INNNNG-YAAA INNNNG-YAAA!” every morning.  But, that is what he thought rich people had, and since I have always thought peacocks were beautiful birds, and it was a happy memory, here is the peacock.  AND this one is quite, so win win.

These are the butterflies on the strap of my bag.  I LOVE them.  I am just having a hard time tacking them on.  They are iron ons and, after I iron them on, I sew them on, but these are not cooperating.  Worst case scenario I will use fabric glue, but I think I have it figured out.

So, that is what I have right now.  Four more in the mail, and I have a State Park patch in my room (that may or may not go on, I haven’t decided yet).  I still have lots of spaces and lots more story to tell, and I still want a fairy, a turtle, and a kokopelli.  Amongst others.  So, the search is on for more, but I am pretty pleased for the time being.

Problems abound.

First, the cables that were with the scanner were NOT the correct cables.

Correct cables have now been located.

Second, my desktop computer does not seem to want to recognize the scanner suddenly.  Which is actually a very big pain because I have had it set to that computer in the past.

Program was located on the hard drive and removed, installation software was found in the software box and reinstalled.

Third, one of the cables was bad.

Replaced cable.

Now the thing is acting like it can’t work because the ink is bad.  I am going to try to see if I can get it to scan without ink in the printer (since it is one of those two in one jobs), otherwise, it is a trip to get ink cartridges (which, really, isn’t a bad thing, I need them anyway, I just wanted to scan tonight).

Hopefully, by the end of this weekend everything will be reconnected and up and running and there will be more art.  What I REALLY need is a new scanner, but that isn’t going to be happening any time soon so GOT TO MAKE IT WORK!

It isn’t awful, but it isn’t up to my usual standards, and here it is:

Generally, if I am just sketching or drawing with nothing specific to draw, I do creatures.  Sometimes they are fairies, sometimes they are odd animal hybrids, sometimes not even I know what they are.  I enjoy doing them, and generally, they come out great.

Here are my examples (note: these are NOT for sale as they are in a book I am working on.  I can recreate similar ones, but they will not be exact as part of the charm of having one is that no two are exactly the same.)
